Algerian eye stitch

The Algerian eye stitch is also known as 'star eyelet stitch'. It is a counted thread stitch often used in canvas works. It consists of 8 straight stitches which form a star shape.

1) Bring the thread to the front at A1. Take it to the back through the centre (A2).

2) Pull the thread tightly to open up the hole in A2. Count two fabric threads to the left of A1. Bring the thread to the front in B.

3) Pull the thread through, then take it through A2 to form a diagonal line.

4) Count two fabric threads to the left of A2. Re-emerge in C. Take the thread to the back through A2 and pull through.

5) Count two fabric threads from C.  Bring the thread to the front in D and take it to the back through A2. Pull the yarn through.

6) Count two fabric threads to the right of D. Re-emerge in E. Take the thread to the back through A2 and pull through.

7) Count two fabric threads from E. Bring the thread to the front in F and take it to the back through A2. Pull the yarn through.

8) Count two fabric threads to the right of F. Re-emerge in G. Take the thread to the back through A2 and pull through.
